0.7.9 - HAUNTED HOUSE - plus Practice Range, Loot Tracking, and more!

Update 0.7.9 has been released for the Keepsake County Beta:

  • New Heist: CONDEMNED: This Victorian heist adds a snowy, frozen haunted house to rob, loaded with backstory, plus a new heist-specific enemy: THE GHOST
    • THE GHOST makes no footstep noises, walks through doors, and cannot be tied or stunned! Don't let them sneak up on you!
    • This heist adds plenty of new story loot as well!
    • This heist is loaded with boarded up windows, doors, and destroyed walls and rooftops. Beware!

  • Added the CAMP: This serves as your little safe practice area. You can now run around inside your trailer and the area you've seen on the Splash Screen! We've added some cool stuff here for you!
    • KEEPSAKE DISPLAY: Keepsakes you've robbed in your current run are exhibited in your camp, so you can keep track! This will be important to the story later...

    • THE FRIKOTA HOME GUIDE: This is your loot log - showcasing every item you steal (from now on, sorry, it's not retroactive!), how much it cost, if it was heavy, if it's a keepsake, and how many you've successfully stolen (aka how many you extracted with). There is also room for descriptions for each, which we'll be adding in a future update.
      • This is now also enabled after heists in the progression menu, and a neato little "NEW" badge appears when you've found something new. Have fun!
    • THE SCRAPBOOK:  From now on (yes, also not retroactive) this showcases every readable item you have stumbled across over the course of Keepsake County (and a few menu items,  like maps you've unlocked). Ever find an interesting note while you were being chased? This will save it for later reading! This will also keep track of all the newspapers of each heist.

    • CRIMECITIES: Enter the incredibly futuristic frontier of CRIMECITIES via your VIRTUAL TOY home VR system. This handy "website" will allow you to practice a number of activities and mechanics outside the tutorial. Wanna unlock every kind of door? Want to know what food's the best to eat when you're hurt? Wanna take the car for a test drive? What hazards are in every level? Now you can!
      • We've applied some particular coding jujitsu to make sure that:
        • While you can use the Wirecutter here, it's not unlocked outside CRIMECITIES if you haven't unlocked it
        • In the future, we'll add the other new unlockable tools here for you to mess with if you want to see what they do
        • Anything you loot in the sandboxes also don't count as actual loot (you will not extract with it)
        • Your temporary perks will work here without you losing them as though you entered a heist - test away!
        • Unlike the Matrix, you cannot die in VR. Wow!

  • Added the following new loot:
    • Lootable Frikota State Flag (you must climb a flagpole to get it!)
    • Modular Eurorack Synth
    • Rowboat
    • Haybale
    • Spare tires & tire stacks
  • Added a "Dog": Chicken coops now sometimes appear outside. These birds can't sense you from any direction like Dogs can, and they also don't detect you from very far, but they also can't be fed bones to calm down!
  • Added a new COP! This fellow replaces the pair of backup cops that used to show up after the Detective, and he's a little sharper than his basic coworkers. You may have spotted him nursing a cup of coffee in the jail earlier...
  • Added the following new pieces of signage:
    • Water, Gas, and Fiber Optic lines
    • Yield, Stop, and Railroad Crossing signs
    • Speed limit, No Parking, Click it or Ticket, Mile Marker signs
    • Reflectors, Bridge Reflectors
  • Added the following new buildings and exterior objects:
    • Downed trees
    • Distant churches
    • Logs
    • Tree stumps
    • Trains
    • Granary Silos
    • Grain Elevators
    • Grain Bins
    • Flagpoles (yes, you can steal the flag off the top)
    • Crop Irrigators
    • Hedges and Hedge Gardens
    • Farm gates - must be unlocked to drive through!
    • Hay rolls
  • Added or tweaked these other things:
    • Modified window sills to extend slightly further down. These should be a bit easier to climb into now, across the board.
    • You can now steal the chips off the clerk's desk at the Jail. Thanks Qwertycast!
    • Reverted HOOK MANSION back to being "classic" architecture style. It simply fits the environment better.
    • APRICOT ESTATES has been temporarily removed from the game. This level was our very first level and testbed, and as such, it's incredibly old, unoptimized, and just not that fun of a level. We'll be redesigning it to fit the ethos of our current set of levels now that we've learned more.
    • Foreclosure letters, notes, etc are all now counted and work as Readables in the Tutorial
    • Time is now slowed down to 10% speed while reading any Readables during a heist. Should make it much easier to enjoy!
    • Toilet Paper, Rolls, and more spawn in the Outhouses now.
    • Picking up an item that completely fills your bag now plays an audio queue, notifying you that your bag is full and stretched to the limit. Thanks Sarah!
  • Fixed the following:
    • Fixed exterior vents on Victorian houses just... not working. This has been resolved, and doors can now be properly popped open.
    • Fixed Pause not properly working with keybinds, and not being able to pause the game on Controllers
    • Fixed the Car Flip/Shove not being bindable, and not being able to flip the car on Controllers. It can now be rebound.
    • Fixed driving off a cliff presenting the old "game over" menu.
    • Attempted to fix tooltips appearing while driving the car - while this doesn't fix every case, it fixes most.
    • Your portrait is now hidden while reading readable items, preventing your head from blocking text.
    • Another new collision fix targeting the Wheelbarrow. It should now throw properly, without launching into the skybox at mach 1 speeds.
    • Fixed the AC unit on THE BABYSITTER not having proper collision for mantling
    • Fixed several unlootable Mid Century Modern chairs found in bedrooms
    • Fixed an exploit where you could glitch yourself through the door of The Jail. Thanks Qwertycast for finding this one!
  • Known issues:
    • Reverted the bed trampoline changes. Loot often spawns on beds, and trampoline colliders would prevent people from looting quite often.
    • Snow and sand trails are still just *wrong* in builds. We are looking at refactoring how these work to be less performance intensive and more accurate.
    • Rearview mirror on the car can cause major slowdown when looking at a house you robbed while driving away.
    • Occasional fatal crash when loading the jail, for some reason!
    • Ladder placement is still goofy and glitchy.
    • Bag flicker issues persist.
    • Mashing the PAUSE button while exiting or while reading a newspaper causes unintended behaviour.
    • You can slowly climb upwards by getting in and out of the car over and over again. However, this really isn't very useful. Thanks Berto!

Onwards! We'll have another big new update out around the end of August adding more heists, new mechanics, and more fixes. See you then!
