0.50 - Configurable Controls/Sensitivity, Burglar Alarm, Cops Calling for Backup!
Keepsake County (in Beta) » Devlog
A nice, fat new update for The Neighbors has been released, which addresses a lot of requests from players while continuing to make the stealth gameplay more dynamic and difficult.
- Players can now edit their control configuration, as well as mouse sensitivity. This lives in the main menu!
- Sensitivity lives in a submenu that can be accessed at the top of the controls menu.
- Cops can now call a second cop car for backup, if they are alerted to your presence. This ups the "hecticness" of each round - screwing up will summon more cops and up the chances of you not surviving your exit.
- Two sets of cops now appear at the 4 minute mark, summoned via an automatic Burglar Alarm, which functions the same as an NPC calling the police.
- Previously, we'd changed the 4 minute deadline, to allow players to complete the level, but with their items becoming "hot" and selling for 1/3 of the usual price. This returns to adding a punishment for taking too long to leave, beyond monetary cost.
- And now, you're more likely to summon cops and alert NPCs because... NPCs now notice missing items when you abscond with particularly "large" items (aka, items that you have to carry with both hands like TVs and Rugs).
- NPCs now also will, on a low level, notice if you've sprinted past them vs walked past them. They aren't sensitive to sound yet, but they will notice if you go sprinting past their field of view.
- While this has always been true, we'd like to share something else - NPCs notice when you lockpick doors and windows (and will attempt to shut them), and they also notice when you flip the breaker or cut the lights (and will head to the breaker to try and fix the lights). Each action has a differing level of suspicion for NPCs depending on the severity of them. Players have asked us what the benefit of using a window is - well, here it is.
